I have a favorite quote about Los Angeles, by Shakespeare. “This other Eden, demi-paradise, this precious stone, set in the silver sea of this ground, this Los Angeles.”
– Harris K. Telemacher, “L.A. Story”
Los Angeles is the home of the film and television industry, and LMU is in the heart of it all. Our students build relationships with Hollywood professionals and learn the art and science of the industry alongside those who are doing it right now. Proximity means access, and all the major studios are within a half-hour of campus. Plus, the whole town is involved in one way or another. Coffee shops cater to laptop-carrying screenwriters. Movie theaters play retrospectives of underappreciated films. Finding actors for student projects is never difficult.
But L.A. is more than just movies and TV shows. This region has a rich cultural scene, with homegrown musicians and bands, world-class museums, top-rated restaurants and stunning architecture. The geography ranges from forested mountains to sun-soaked beaches, and the population is as diverse as it gets. Here, you can jog along the coast in the morning, eat Korean tacos for lunch, watch a limited-release art film in the afternoon and go to a Laker game that night. The possibilities are endless.
