Jose was born in Mexico City. He studied animation at the film school in Prague, FAMU. He continued his apprenticeship at the renowned studios Trnka and produced his first animation at Bratri V Triku Studios, Kratky Film. He completed his education in the Animation Workshop at the University of California, Los Angeles. His short films have been exhibited in all major film festivals around the world. His work for film and television has been awarded internationally in several occasions. He has received the MacArthur Foundation Grant, the Fulbright Scholarship, and the National Endowment for the Arts from the Mexican Government and has been nominated for the Mexican Film Academy Animation Award. He is currently working in a short film about the Mexican Revolution and in an animated feature film based on Franz Kafka and the Mariachi Music.
