Upon graduating with a B.A. from San Diego State University in 1981, Kurt started his career in the entertainment business by becoming an Imagineer for Walt Disney, WED Enterprise. He worked on both Tokyo Disneyland and EPCOT theme parks. After Disney, Kurt moved to the School of Film and Television at UCLA as a Senior Designer/Technician for the film school. There he assisted students and faculty in the area of film and television production for camera and location sound recording. While working at UCLA, Kurt went on to earn his M.F.A. (2000) in directing and film production from the film school.
Kurt joined Loyola Marymount School of Film and Television first as a visiting Assistant Professor in 2005, then as a full-time Assistant Professor (2006) in the Recording Arts Department. Kurt teaches both undergraduate and graduate students in production sound and sound design for film and television. He also works as a freelance production sound mixer/sound designer/filmmaker. Kurt’s recent endeavors have included directing a nationally broadcast commercial for “Good Neighbor Pharmacy” (2007) for diabetes awareness. Additionally, Kurt was the cinematographer and sound designer on the award winning feature documentary “Ahmed- Say Something Funny” (2008) which won Best Feature Comedy and Best Feature Documentary at the Action on Film Festival International 2008. He is now in post-production as the sound designer for the independent feature length animation film “Abracadabra”.
