LMU Alumnus French Film Noir
Opens In Los Angeles and New York
LOS ANGELES, June 9, 2006 - The film “Autumn” written, directed, edited and produced by LMU alumnus Ra’up McGee opens June 9 in Los Angeles and New York.
“Autumn” is the story of Jean-Pierre (Laurent Lucas), a troubled hit–man who realizes he has too much of a conscience to kill. After recently rekindling his relationship with his childhood soul mate, Michelle (Irène Jacob), he sees their love as a way out. But when he learns that she has stolen a mysterious briefcase, Jean-Pierre is forced to walk a fine line between protecting the woman he loves and falling back into the world of crime he just left.
The initial idea to shoot a cold, French film noir began when McGee was shooting a documentary in Indonesia. McGee wrote the script for “Autumn,” but grew frustrated when no film companies in L.A. were interested in it. “Nobody took seriously that I wanted to make my first feature film in France and in French,” explained McGee. So he moved to France, secured two big name actors and produced the movie himself.
McGee MFA ’98 earned his undergraduate degree in film from University of California, San Diego. He produced and directed an award-winning documentary, “Ramadhan in Indonesia” that aired on PBS and National Geographic Channels and has won the Cine Golden Eagle Award twice.
“Autumn” has won the Best Foreign Film at the Santa Cruz Film Festival, Best Director at the West Cinematographer Newport Beach Film Festival and Official Selection at the Toronto International Film Festival. Following its opening in Los Angeles and New York, “Autumn” will be playing in various cities around the country including Washington D.C., Chicago and San Francisco.
