General SFTV Internships & Positions
Admin Aide I
Perform various office duties: filing, answering phones, typing, and data entry. Provide basic department information. Perform incidental errands and Xeroxing.
3rd Floor Student Worker
The 3rd fl student worker will be expected to answer phones, brew coffee, help faculty and staff with copy and printing projects, distribute mail, help with filing projects, maintain office equipment and work with the staff on projects as required.
Student Production Asst
Assist students in all facets of pre and post production process: casting, insurance, paperwork, etc.
Undergraduate Teaching Asst
Help faculty members prepare for lectures by making copies of class materials, syllabi, and exams. Assist the faculty members with classroom activities such as taking roll, passing out materials or monitoring class behavior, or other duties as requested.
Undergraduate Teaching Asst. with Technological Expertise
Assist professor with in class demonstrations using equipment typical to a technical SFTV class. Troubleshoot problems with technology and equipment. Must be available outside of class hours to assist students with equipment operations and care. Must be patient with less experienced students.
SFTV Accounting Clerk
Post invoices into accounting system. Reconcile AP accounts. Make deposits at University cashier. Copy and file payment card statements. Print POs as requested by Budget Manager or Budget Analyst.
Camera Tech
Work study students will be responsible for filing and checking in camera and sound equipment for both classes and individual projects. Students will be trained in all camera and sound operations of the equipment and know what to do when equipment goes down.
Projectionist
Looking for a highly motivated and dedicated student to work as a motion picture projectionists. New projectionist will be trained to operate all of the equipment in the projection booth. They use film projectors, video projectors, DVD players, video tape players, audio equipment, and machines to rewind film.
New projectionist will be trained to inspect films before they are shown. To do this they place each film reel on a rewinding machine and look for holes, worn places, or other defects. If necessary they repair any defects found in the film.
Projectionist will also clean and oil the equipment, check for defective parts, and make minor repairs. For major repairs they are to inform the lead projectionist.
Lead Projectionist
Lead projectionist will operate all of the equipment in the projection booth. They will use film projectors, video projector, DVD players, Video tape players, audio equipment, and machines to rewind film.
The lead projectionist will also be responsible to train new projectionists’ on all of the equipment in the projection booth and the theaters operation.
Lead Projectionists must be sure that films are inspected before they are shown. To do this they place each film reel on a rewinding machine and look for holes, worn places, or other defects. If necessary they repair any defects found in the film.
Lead Projectionists will also check that the equipment is cleaned and oiled, check for defective parts, and make Minor repairs. For major repairs the Lead Projectionist is to inform the theater services administrator.
The Lead projectionist will also be responsible for scheduling the projection staff to cover all events and classes in the Mayer Theater and be sure that all material to be projected is available for projection.
Production Internships & Positions
TV Engineering Technical Asst
Assisting Television Engineers with all aspects of Television Engineering operation, including: assisting with routing maintenance, assisting students with editing systems, doing video tape format transfers, providing periodic assistance to professors, assisting with paperwork, assisting with any other aspect of TV Engineering.
Post Production Asst
Assists Post Production department in research/development and execution of department goals, policies, and procedures.
Basic computer knowledge required. Additional useful skills include: Video editing, graphic design, visual effects, color-correction, DVD-authoring, web design, computer technical trouble-shooting/maintenance. On the job training available.
Lighting and Grip Tech
Responsible for equipment and office upkeep, auditing returns for missing equipment and tracking down missing equipment. Tech will oversee returned orders, track damages and perform repairs. Also responsible for administering student fines and stage maintenance, as well as
opening and closing procedure in office, stages, and loading dock in the absence of graduate assistant. Techs work closely with LMU staff and grad assistants to maintain proper operating procedures.
Recording Arts Internships & Positions
RECA Interns/Tech Setup
Unpaid service until satisfactory completion of at least one semester of service. (See RECA Volunteer Corps at RECA for details.)
RECA Level 1 Students (L1), Year 1
Job Description: Students must be able to execute regular unsupervised Tech Setup in RECA studios, schedule studio bookings and fill out Production Sound orders. Some soldering is required and basic Pro Tools knowledge is essential.
RECA Level 1 Students (L1), Year 2
Job Description: Continuation of previous responsibilities with less focus on Tech Setup and more focus on studio scheduling and filling out Production Sound orders. Moderate development in soldering and troubleshooting is expected.
RECA Level 2 Students (L2), Year 1
Job Description: In addition to the above duties these students must further their cabling knowledge by constructing complex multi-pair signal cables, executing proper cable management and bundling in campus studios, and troubleshooting studio wiring faults. Additional Pro Tools expertise is required to troubleshoot operator error in average student sessions.
RECA Level 2 Students (L2), Year 2
Job Description: In addition to previous duties and an enhanced ability to troubleshoot a variety of problems these students must be able to competently carry out tasks delegated by the Chief Engineer in a wide variety of RECA areas. Some project oriented student oversight expected.
RECA Advanced Tech (L3)
Reserved for the top senior in a given class as determined by the Chief Engineer. This individual works with the Chief Engineer to allocate distribution of Production Sound assets for student shoots, delegate tasks to the staff, enforce RECA procedures and policies upon SFTV, and work hands-on with the Chief Engineer in studio maintenance and construction.
Animation Internships & Positions
Animation Office Assistant
Assist Animation Department in day to day operations. Tasks may include organizing and cleaning labs/classrooms, running errands for faculty/staff, and shadowing Office Leads to learn valuable skills in animation.
Animation Office Lead
Coordinate with Animation staff on tasks assigned to Office Assistants. Technical tasks may include basic animation assignments like; conceptualizing, coloring, and clean-up of departmental projects.
Animation Technical Assistant
Assist Technical staff in basic maintenance operations of the computer labs. Coordinate tasks assigned to Office workers. Other technical tasks may include intermediate animation assignments like; modeling/texturing 3D assets, compositing, and production of departmental projects.
Animation Technical Lead
Coordinate with Animation staff on tasks assigned to Office and Technical workers. Assist Technical staff in advanced maintenance operations of the computer labs. Direct the completion of departmental projects and assign tasks to other workers accordingly.
Office of Industry Relations Internships & Positions
Office of Industry Relations Grad Assistant - Internships, Events & Alumni Relations
- Lead and train team of OIR student workers
- Maintain staff schedules and assist with scheduling students and visitors to meet regarding internships and programs
- Manage resume and cover letter submissions for internship program
- Manage SFTV’s internship email account and field general inquiries
- Assist with planning and execution of internship info sessions
- Assist Programs Coordinator and Publicist with planning, preparation and execution of all OIR events and workshops
- Manage Invitation and RSVP lists for OIR events
- Send eblasts to SFTV students and staff regarding upcoming events, opportunities and internships
- Read trades and update office on Industry news
- Brainstorm new programs and tools for students
- Assist with event production of LMU’s film festival Film Outside the Frame
- Manage student workers at Film Outside the Frame
- Answer general office extension, direct calls and voicemails

Internship, Events & Film Festival Student Aid
- Assist in creation of internship job descriptions and summaries and create employer bios
- Provide internship and film festival research, as needed

- Assist with planning, preparation and/or execution of OIR programming and events (Ex. Film Outside the Frame Festival; Business of the Business Symposium; Professional Development Workshops)
- Provide OIR staff with administrative support, as needed (may include but not limited to photocopying, scanning, faxing and phone inquiries)
- Answer office extensions and direct calls
- Greet guests and assist them with signing in for the appropriate staff member
