INNOVATION IS AT WORK HERE
The LMU|School of Film and Television is modeled after a professional film and television studio – from its state of the art, industry standard tools and technology , to the high-energy atmosphere that is a veritable beehive of activity.
Our commitment is to creating a “real world” experience and is reflected by the quality of our professional production and technical staff, as well as the 24/7 access to all the industry standard tools that our students need to tell their stories.
The SPOT is our fully developed and student-run Student Production Office Team . The SPOT looks and operates like a real world production office and helps our students with everything they need to complete a production. Here students can access phones, faxes, high-speed network connections and meeting rooms . They will find a complete production handbook , as well as casting and location files and shooting permits. A complete computer lab with the latest version of EP Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting software is available to help them put together professional projects.
AT LMU|School of Film and Television, we love technology as much as our students do. For example:
The Screenwriting Lab has Macintosh and PC computers with the latest version of Final Draft installed.
Our film program uses Arriflex SR II Super 16mm, and 16mm cameras . Each camera is fitted with a “studio package,” and Sony PD150 and DSR390 digital video cameras are used for field production.
Our film soundstage is equipped with a professional “green bed” , including overhead state of the art lighting grids , and, at over 5,000 square feet , is large enough to accommodate several sets at once – many of which can be built in our complete scene shop . And for your shoots, we offer new, professional dressing rooms, with fully equipped make-up and hair stations for the comfort of our actors.
Our television stage is equipped with Sony DVX50 digital video cameras mounted on Cartoni studio pedestals and an Echolab digital production switcher . The lighting grid is controlled from a Strand console . Nagra Ster o and Fostex FR2 digital recorders are used for location and field recording. Both stages and the Grip & Electric Department are equipped with Mole-Richardson lighting instruments. JL Fisher dollies and accessories, and Matthews grip equipment .
Our Animation Program uses traditional animation cameras, as well as the most comprehensive, up to the minute computer hardware and software, including Adobe, Maya, Shake, Toonz, and 3D Studio Max in the labs, running on both Mac and PC platforms .
To complete their projects, students have 24/7 access to Editing, ADR, Foley, Sound FX, Music Recording and Music Mixing suites where Apple Final Cut Pro HD is used for editing picture, and post-production audio and sound design are edited with ProTools software.
And finally, we screen our creations in our beautiful Mayer Theatre , LMU’s primary screening facility, which is equipped with both 16mm and 35mm film projectors as well as an American High Definition digital light projector – with all three formats accompanied by exceptional Dolby Digital Surround Sound .
At LMU|School of Film and Television, we are dedicated to the next generation of storytellers, and we make sure that you learn how to use the latest tools and technology to tell your stories with depth and skill.
