To submit your application to the Screenwriting major or minor, please complete the following steps:
- Write a personal essay representing you as an individual – your academic objectives and future goals. Included here should be an explanation of how becoming a major/minor within SFTV will bring your goal within reach. Essays should be no longer than 5 double-spaced typed pages.
- Select a collection of creative materials. Creative materials may include photo essays, short stories, scripts, and other static visual materials. Be sure to consult an advisor on the appropriate creative materials for your program of interest.
- Create a graduation plan. This plan should be a semester-by-semester breakdown of how you plan to complete the requirements for the Screenwriting major/minor within your expected graduation timeline. If you need help making a plan, you can create one with SFTV Advising.
Applicants to the Screenwriting major must complete an additional step:
- Submit a minimum of two evaluations/recommendations. Send the following link to your evaluators for them to complete: SFTV Internal Applicant Recommendation Form. Recommenders may be LMU faculty, staff, students, or any other contact with whom you've collaborated on relevant creative work. We suggest at least one academic evaluator and one creative evaluator. (PLEASE NOTE: Recommendations are confidential and are not available to the applicant.)
Once you have written your essay, selected your creative materials, created your graduation plan, and sent your evaluators the recommendation form you may complete the final step:
- Submit your application to the Screenwriting major or minor by completing the online form. Applications are reviewed thrice annually:
- Spring application deadline: February 28/29.
- Summer application deadline: the second Friday of Summer Session II. (The 2024 Summer deadline is July 5.)
- Fall application deadline: September 30.
