Roy Salter is a Senior Advisor and Leader of the Valuation & Financial Advisory Services practice, the Media & Entertainment industry group and the Fairness and Solvency Committee of FTI Capital Advisors. He has a Doctorate in Business Administration with a focus on financial theory and business valuation.
Dr. Salter joined FTI Consulting with its acquisition of The Salter Group (“TSG”) in December 2012, a leading independent financial and strategic advisory firm, which he co-founded in January 2003 and that specialized in providing strategic advisory and transaction support, business and intangible asset valuations, financial opinions, financial and strategic analysis, forecasting and other transaction support covering a broad spectrum of industries. Founded in January 2003, TSG was ranked by Thompson Reuters as the world’s leading independent financial and strategic advisory serving the entertainment and media industry between 2006 and 2012.

Previous to TSG, Dr. Salter was a Managing Director at Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin between 1988 and 2002, where he established and co-managed the firm's industry group practice, and pioneered the establishment of analytic methods used throughout the world to evaluate entertainment and media businesses, assets and investments. Previous to Houlihan Lokey, Dr. Salter was a Senior Vice President with Wells Fargo Capital Markets and Wells Fargo Bank between 1981 and 1988 where he provided commercial banking products and services focused primarily within the entertainment and media industries.
Since 1988, Dr. Salter has led or overseen the assessment of over 5,000 engagements, with a particular focus on entertainment, media and other intellectual property businesses representing combined values in excess of US$250 billion on behalf of, or in conjunction with every Major and Mini-Major Hollywood Studio and Studio-Satellite, most major European and Asian film studios and broadcasters, most Major and leading Independent Music Companies, most significant branded entertainment businesses, most leading OTT and digital SVOD and AVOD platforms, several leading gaming businesses, and many others, along with most of the leading global capital market businesses supporting these industry sectors. Some of Dr. Salter’s clients have included The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures Entertainment, NBC/Universal, MGM/UA, Paramount Studios, Lions Gate Entertainment, DreamWorks Entertainment, Legendary Entertainment, Hasbro, Mattel, Nintendo, AMC Television, National Geographic Television, Telemundo, Media set Spa (Italy), Pro Sieben Sat 1 (Germany), Studio Canal (France), Entertainment One (England), Dentsu, Inc. (Japan), ITV (England), CJ Entertainment (Korea), Televisa (Mexico), Venevision (Venezuela), EMI Music, Warner Music, Sony ATV Music, Elvis Presley Enterprises, Frank Sinatra Enterprises, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and many others. The capital market businesses that Dr. Salter has supported include Goldman Sachs, KKR, Soros, JP Morgan, Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Apollo Capital, TPG Capital, Ares Capital, Oaktree Capital and many others. In addition, he has given numerous presentations to industry leaders and financial institutions on valuing media and entertainment industry investments.
Dr. Salter is currently a Clinical Research Professor at LMU and teaches a course titled “Introduction to Entertainment and Media Finance.” He has drafted a textbook by the same name. He previously taught undergraduate and M.B.A. courses at UCLA, California State University at Northridge (CSUN), Harvard University Business School, CalTech, and the European Media Business School in Spain and Italy.
Dr. Salter holds a D.B.A. from Grenoble École de Management in France, having drafted a dissertation titled “Reconciling Going Concern Business Valuation Indications Derived From Multiple Business Valuation Methods.” He additionally holds an M.B.A. from Loyola Marymount University and a B.S. in business administration from California State University at Northridge. He is a Co-Founder and previous interim-Chairman of One Community, LLC, a business formed to facilitate funded social impact campaigns that support a variety of globally significant social issues; a founder and board advisor of Royalty Review Council, LLC; Crunch Digital, LLC; and previously a founder and board member to California United Bank that was acquired in 2017.
